Asma Mhalla is a political theorist and author whose work examines the transformations of power and sovereignty in the twenty-first century. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and was a Research Fellow at New York University (NYU) in 2026.

Her research explores how power is being reorganized across states, corporations, and geopolitical rivalries, and how these transformations are reshaping contemporary democracies. At the intersection of political theory and geopolitics, she focuses on sovereignty, information, cognitive power, and the evolving relationship between public and private forms of power.

She is the author of Technopolitique (Seuil, 2024) and Cyberpunk (Seuil, 2025), both bestsellers in France and translated internationally. Her work has led her to develop the concept of the BigState, a theory of the emerging structures and new configurations of power in the twenty-first century.
